Analysis of the cost and technological features of the installation of modern metal facades in the regions of Ukraine: Kyiv, Lviv, Dnipro

October 15, 2026
2

The current stage of development of commercial, municipal, and private architecture in Ukraine is characterized by a steady paradigm shift from traditional exterior finishing methods to innovative engineering solutions. The rejection of classic “wet” processes in favor of suspended ventilated facades is driven not only by high aesthetic standards but also by strict regulations on energy efficiency, durability, and fire safety imposed on new buildings and reconstruction projects. Metal facade systems, made of galvanized steel or extruded aluminum with a high-tech polymer coating, provide unprecedented resistance to weathering, ultraviolet radiation, and mechanical damage. Domestic manufacturers, among which the Kyiv-based Mehbud plant holds a leading position in the market, offer an extremely wide range of architectural tools: from classic cassette and rack systems to complex spatial solutions in the form of cube-shaped lamellas and functional blinds facades.

A comprehensive understanding of pricing mechanisms for materials and installation works in key regions of Ukraine — Kyiv, Lviv, and Dnipro — is a critically important task for developers, private investors, and general contractors at the stage of budgeting construction projects. A fundamental market analysis as of 2026 demonstrates that the final estimate is formed under the influence of a complex matrix of factors: the complexity of the load-bearing subsystem, the height of the building, logistics costs for transporting bulky parts, as well as significant regional fluctuations in the cost of skilled labor and special equipment rental. This report provides comprehensive and in-depth analytics on the technological, operational, and economic aspects of installing modern facade systems, based on current market data and engineering standards.

Engineering foundations and operational advantages of suspended ventilated facades

A suspended ventilated facade is a complex multi-layer engineering structure that is fixed to the outer wall of a building with a mandatory technical calculation of the air gap between the thermal insulation layer and the outer protective-decorative screen. The main physical principle ensuring the long-term effectiveness of such facades is based on the effect of thermodynamic draft, or “chimney”. Due to the natural difference in pressures and temperatures, the air in the ventilation gap constantly circulates upwards. This directed air flow performs a critically important function: it continuously removes condensate and residual construction moisture, ensuring that the layer of basalt insulation and the main load-bearing wall remain absolutely dry regardless of seasonal weather conditions.

The typical configuration of a metal suspended facade consists of several critically important levels, each of which forms part of the overall budget. The load-bearing base, which can be monolithic reinforced concrete, brick, or aerated concrete block, requires careful preparation. Before starting installation, certified contractors often conduct a mechanical check of walls, fasteners, and anchors using specialized equipment (pull tester), the cost of a call to the site for which is estimated at approximately 3000 UAH. The next step is the installation of a metal subsystem consisting of load-bearing profiles and support brackets. A complete set of a high-quality aluminum subsystem, which includes thermal breaks, connecting profiles, and drainage elements, can account for a significant financial share — about 690 UAH per square meter. Directly mounting the frame and brackets is priced on the market in the range of 100 to 230 UAH/m².

The thermal insulation layer in suspended systems is traditionally formed from dense mineral (basalt) wool. This material is not chosen by chance: it provides high thermal resistance indicators, excellent vapor permeability and, which is a determining factor for high-rise construction, belongs to the class of non-combustible materials (flammability group NG). The cost of the insulation material itself with a thickness of 100 mm along with protective membranes and hardware is about 170 UAH/m², while the installation works to fix it on the wall cost from 60 to 309 UAH/m² depending on the region and difficulty of access. A windproof hydro-barrier membrane is mounted on top of the insulation, which prevents the weathering of mineral fibers under the influence of powerful air flows in the gap, the installation of which adds another 15–20 UAH/m² to the estimate. The final chord is the external cladding that forms the aesthetics of the building: metal cassettes, racks, cube-shaped systems, or blinds panels.

Table 1. Comparative technical and economic characteristics of facade systems

Evaluation criterion Suspended metal facade Traditional “wet” facade
Fire safety Class NG (Non-combustible materials) Class G1 (Low combustibility) or G4 (Budget, banned on high-rises)
Vapor permeability Ideal (the effect of a “breathing” wall is provided) Depends on the type of insulation and plaster
Seasonality of installation Year-round (dry installation technology) Only spring-summer period (due to wet processes)
Damage resistance High (metal anti-vandal screen) Low (coating is easy to damage mechanically)
Tendency to deformation Minimal, absolute spatial stability Present depending on the quality of the reinforcing mesh
Foundation load Low or medium (from 3 to 8 kg/m² for metal) High, especially when using thick layers of plaster

A comparative analysis undeniably proves the long-term operational advantages of metal systems. If complex insulation using the “wet facade” technology (using foam plastic, reinforcing mesh, plaster, and painting) costs an average of 600 to 1600 UAH/m² on the market (with an average mark of about 908–944 UAH/m²), then investments in a ventilated facade, although requiring slightly larger initial investments, pay off due to the lack of need for cosmetic repairs and repainting for decades. Metal facade panels made of galvanized steel have a service life of up to 50 years, providing reliable protection for the real estate object.

Cassette metal facades: production specifics, materials, and architectural application

Cassette facade today is one of the most common varieties of metal cladding in modern corporate and administrative construction. From an engineering point of view, a facade cassette is a spatial structure, the edges of which are bent on four sides, forming a completed rectangular or square modular element. The engineering community and architects highly value cassette facades due to their exceptional spatial rigidity. This characteristic stems from the features of the production process: the four-sided bending of the edges acts as stiffening ribs, preventing the “lens effect” (metal distortion) even with significant temperature changes. Thanks to such geometry, cassettes are perfectly suited for cladding large-scale planes, creating perfectly flat surfaces with a clear rustication (seam) between elements.

Thin-sheet metal serves as the material for the manufacture of modern facade cassettes at domestic facilities. High-quality galvanized steel with a thickness of 0.7 to 1.5 mm, or aluminum sheet with a thickness of 1.2 to 2.0 mm, is predominantly used. The products of the Kyiv-based Mehbud plant go through a mandatory stage of applying a resistant polymer coating in accordance with the international RAL color standard. This polymer coating not only performs a decorative function, allowing you to give the facade a matte, glossy, or exclusive metallized texture, but also serves as a powerful barrier against corrosion processes and aggressive chemical compounds characteristic of the air in large cities. An important aspect is the weight of the material: steel cassettes create a moderate load on the building’s load-bearing frame at the level of 5–8 kg per square meter, which makes them an ideal choice when reconstructing old buildings whose foundations are not designed for heavy porcelain stoneware or natural stone (the weight of which often exceeds 20-25 kg/m²). The size grid of cassettes is distinguished by its variability: the width can range from 150 to 525 mm, and the length of the panels reaches 12 meters.

Pricing for the materials themselves is quite flexible. The cost of basic metal facade cassettes of domestic production starts from the equivalent of 32 US dollars per square meter. Depending on the type of coating, metal thickness, and geometry (for example, open or concealed installation cassettes), the market value of the material can vary from 750 UAH/m² for standard panels to 4018–4485 UAH/m² for premium modifications or large-format cassettes. In a full installation cycle, the creation of a square meter of a metal cassette (including galvanized sheet raw materials, cassette forming, and polymer painting) costs approximately 830 UAH/m².

Installation of a cassette facade is classified as highly skilled work. It requires jewelry precision when leveling the subsystem, since any, even minimal deviations in the vertical or horizontal planes, will immediately be reflected on the cassette joints, violating the architectural geometry of the object. In addition, thermal insulation boards under the cassettes must be mounted in a checkerboard pattern and as tightly as possible to each other to avoid the emergence of “cold bridges”, which can lead to condensation and mold under the cladding. The comprehensive cost of installing facades made of metal cassettes or composite materials turnkey (which includes the frame, insulation, membrane, and cladding) is estimated in the range of 1800 to 2600 UAH/m². If we highlight only the work of assembling facing cassettes on a finished subsystem, this stage is priced at the level of 400–550 UAH/m².

Table 2. Stratification of prices for comprehensive installation of ventilated facades in the city of Kyiv

Contractor name / Brigade type Declared installation cost (UAH/m²) Market positioning
PRO. Vladar (Brigade) 580 Budget segment, private brigades
Budkraft Construction LLC 800 Mid-price segment
Planeta-2OOO 850 Mid-price segment
Volosiachyk Vasyl (Company) 1200 Professional standard segment
PRO. WARMDOM (Brigade) 1350 Professional standard segment
LIGIONFORT (Company) 1500 Premium segment, high-altitude installation
Pan-Bud (Company) 1580 Premium segment, complex architecture
Ale-Sta (Company) 2400 Exclusive installation, complex logistics

An analysis of regional markets reveals significant differences. In Kyiv, the average cost of installing a complete ventilated facade is about 1208–1223 UAH/m², however, as can be seen from the table, the price spread between small brigades and certified engineering companies ranges from 580 to an incredible 2400 UAH/m². In Lviv, which is experiencing a boom in commercial real estate construction, the pricing policy has practically synchronized with the capital’s: the average indicator for the installation of a ventilated facade reaches 1198 UAH/m², and the local installation of composite and cassettes is 763 UAH/m². Meanwhile, the Dnipro market demonstrates a more pragmatic and restrained approach: the cost of installing facades made of composite panels starts here from 550 UAH/m², and the comprehensive installation of suspended systems starts from 935 UAH/m².

Linear and rack facades: cost optimization and wood aesthetics

Rack facade, which is also classified in the professional environment as linear panels or metal siding, represents an effective tool in the modern architectural arsenal. Unlike rectangular cassettes, this type of cladding is characterized by the use of long and relatively narrow metal profiles, which are joined together using special longitudinal lock connections, forming a continuous, monolithic, or step-structured plane.

The production technology of linear panels is based on the profiling of galvanized steel. The modern market offers a wide size range, where the rack width can be from 150 to 525 mm, and the length, thanks to continuous rolling, can reach 12 meters. A unique feature of the rack systems produced on the technological lines of the Mehbud plant is the possibility of pre-assembling them into large modular panels. This design solution radically optimizes logistics on the construction site and directly the high-altitude installation stage, as it allows builders to operate with much larger planes in one technological cycle, reducing the number of point fasteners. Rack facades are widely used in the construction of large-scale logistics complexes, shopping centers, gas stations, and private residential properties. The use of polymer coatings imitating the texture of natural wood, such as a coating with the texture “Golden Oak” or “Moroccan Walnut” (for example, using Printech technology), has gained tremendous popularity. This allows architects to flawlessly combine the strength and durability of galvanized metal with the visual warmth of natural materials. The cost of materials in this segment varies: metal siding with wood imitation can cost from 413 UAH/m² to 1932 UAH/m² for premium 3D textures.

In terms of the organization of the construction process and labor intensity, the installation of a rack facade often turns out to be easier and faster than the installation of cassette systems. This is explained by a smaller number of individual point fasteners and the presence of a standardized coupling system (locks), which levels out minor frame errors. The economics of this process is significantly more attractive to the investor. According to analytical data, the cost of installing facade metal siding and linear panels in the Ukrainian market ranges from 300 to 500 UAH/m², with an average of about 403 UAH/m² exclusively for cladding works. Some specialized estimates fix prices from 380 to 450 UAH/m² for the installation of metal profiled elements. If specialists from the international association of industrial alpinism are involved in the process, the cost of high-altitude installation of a ventilated facade made of metal profile starts from 450–650 UAH/m² for work.

Regional statistics reflect general economic trends. In the capital region, the installation of cladding with rack panels and metal siding is estimated on average at 324–428 UAH/m² depending on the configuration of building corners and the presence of architectural protrusions. In Lviv, the price for similar construction services is fixed in the range of 300–500 UAH/m² (with an average median of 403 UAH/m²). In Dnipro, contractors offer services for the installation of siding and linear rack systems from an affordable 330 UAH/m². The total cost of a rack facade “turnkey” (which accumulates the cost of metal panels, load-bearing subsystem, thermal insulation, and work) in the market starts from 1900 UAH/m².

Cube-shaped spatial systems: architectural volume and estimated cost

Cube-shaped rack, often called a lamella, is a metal profile with a pronounced rectangular or square cross-section. Historically, this engineering product was used mainly in interiors to create designer suspended ceilings in shopping malls, but in recent years it has made a real aesthetic revolution in exterior architecture. Exteriors of buildings decorated with a cube-shaped rack instantly acquire additional physical volume, deep relief, and create the impression of an infinite perspective thanks to the play of light and shadow.

The technical parameters of this product are quite strict, which guarantees perfect geometry. On the production lines of the Mehbud plant, cube-shaped racks are produced with a standardized base width of 34 or 35 mm. The height of the profile itself is variable and amounts to 42, 60, 68, 80, 100, or 105 mm. The standard length of one cube-shaped lamella reaches 3 meters. The installation technology of a cube-shaped rack differs radically from cassettes or linear siding. It is fixed not to flat guides, but to special load-bearing traverses (stringers) with pre-stamped grooves, which are rigidly attached to the main metal frame of the SVF. The fixation step (distance between adjacent lamellas) can be 50, 100, 150, or 200 mm. Thanks to such an open structure, the facade looks extremely light and weightless visually, and the inter-rack space provides ideal free air circulation, reducing the wind load on the load-bearing structures to a minimum. The cost of the materials themselves directly depends on the density of the step and the height of the profile, as this determines the consumption of running meters of the rack per square meter of area.

Table 3. Dependence of the cost of cube-shaped rack materials on the installation step

Lamella size (WxH, mm) Installation step (mm) Rack consumption per 1 m² Declared cost (UAH/m²)
35х35 50 (dense step) 20 linear meters + traverse 1200
35х60 100 10 linear meters + traverse 950
35х100 100 10 linear meters + traverse 1500
50х50 100 10 linear meters + traverse 1100
85х35 150 7 linear meters + traverse 850
85х35 200 (sparse step) 5 linear meters + traverse 650

The material is made of corrosion-resistant galvanized steel. Cube-shaped systems, especially decorated with a wood texture, have become an integral attribute of decorating the entrance groups of elite suburban cottages, representative commercial offices, and elite restaurant complexes. The facade belongs to the class of low-combustible materials (or completely non-combustible, depending on the configuration and thickness of the metal), which guarantees the highest level of fire safety.

Pricing for installation works with a cube-shaped rack is composite. Although open price statistics often cite the cost of rack installation at the level of 320–370 UAH/m², these figures predominantly reflect the cost of installing the rack in interiors on the ceiling. According to open data, when forming a demonstration estimate for an area of 100 m² (excluding the subsystem for the external facade), the costs will amount to about 57,375 UAH for materials and 32,000 UAH for the installation works of fixing the lamellas themselves. However, the use of this system on the exterior requires the full installation of an SVF frame (work from 100 to 230 UAH/m²), installation of insulation (from 60 to 300 UAH/m²), as well as work at a significant height, which requires the rental and installation of scaffolding (from 80 to 120 UAH/m²). Accordingly, the comprehensive installation of a facade made of a cube-shaped rack in the capital objectively exceeds the mark of 1000–1200 UAH/m² exclusively for the labor costs of the contracting organization.

In the context of key cities, interesting patterns are observed. Kyiv accumulates the highest concentration of objects using a cube-shaped rack. Continuous demand for designer and non-standard solutions keeps prices for installation works at a premium level. Complex engineering nodes, such as seamless transitions of the rack from the ceiling of a canopy to a vertical wall, creating continuous lines on the facade, and integrating hidden architectural lighting between the lamellas, are priced by companies using increased complexity coefficients. Lviv’s architectural environment is actively introducing the cube-shaped rack into large-scale revitalization projects of old industrial zones and the construction of modern IT clusters. The cost of installing facade structures here is held at a stable level of about 1198 UAH/m². In Dnipro, the use of cube-shaped lamellas on the facades of mass development is just gaining popularity, while overall prices for the installation of any suspended structures are more loyal, starting from 935 UAH/m².

Blinds facades: a synergy of sun protection, privacy, and innovative ventilation

Blinds facade is a high-tech and specific modification of a ventilated facade. Its design consists of separate metal lamellas, which are rigidly fixed on a vertical load-bearing frame at a strictly calculated angle of inclination. Visually, this monumental structure resembles semi-open window blinds scaled to the entire facade or its individual sections. Due to this specificity, among all existing varieties of suspended systems, it is the blinds facade that provides the best air permeability and maximum efficiency of natural ventilation.

The industrial production of blinds facades, concentrated at the Mehbud plant, is based on the use of high-quality galvanized steel or extruded aluminum profile. The metal thickness plays a key role in the stability of the structure and varies from 0.45 mm to a massive 3 mm. Modern industrial technologies for applying polymer coatings, such as powder paint or polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) coating, provide the facade with a flawless appearance during the first 15–20 years of operation and form a reliable barrier against corrosion for 35–50 years. Depending on wind loads and architectural requirements of the object, engineers offer various profile configurations:

  1. “Standard” (metal thickness 0.45 mm) — a basic reliable solution.
  2. “Exclusive” (0.7–0.8 mm) — high-strength lamellas.
  3. “Premium” (steel up to 1.5 mm) — a reinforced anti-vandal profile, where the lamella dimensions reach 15×20 cm.

The operational advantages of blinds facades are unique and solve several engineering tasks at once. First, inclined lamellas act as passive sun protection: they effectively reflect direct sunlight, preventing excessive heating of capital walls and interior spaces in summer, which radically reduces the building’s energy costs for air conditioning. Second, blinds panels are an unsurpassed architectural solution for aesthetic masking of communications. They perfectly hide the external units of industrial air conditioners, ventilation shafts, and air ducts on the facade. The specificity of the design allows air to freely penetrate the engineering equipment, ensuring its uninterrupted operation, but at the same time the technical nodes remain completely invisible to passers-by. Third, thanks to the inclined angle of placement, such facades are prone to self-cleaning — precipitation naturally washes dust and dirt off the inclined surfaces of the lamellas, which significantly reduces the cost of building cleaning. A separate direction for the application of blinds facades is the construction of multi-level parking lots. Closed parking lots require powerful natural ventilation to quickly remove toxic exhaust gases, but at the same time, the cars inside need protection from rain, snow, and strong wind. The metal blinds facade resolves this engineering conflict as rationally as possible.

In terms of pricing, the cost of material for creating a metal blinds facade starts from the equivalent of $50 per square meter of panel. However, the installation of such systems is classified as the installation of complex architectural suspended systems. Considering the specifics of assembling a large number of separate profiled lamellas onto guide posts using hidden fixators and providing technological gaps for metal thermal expansion, the price for installing such a facade fluctuates in the highest segment of market offers. In Kyiv and the metropolitan agglomeration, the cost of installation works for ventilated facades of such complex configuration confidently reaches 1200–1700 UAH/m², and in cases of high-altitude work involving certified industrial climbers, the amount can be significantly higher. In Lviv, the modern trend towards the use of blinds facades in new business-class residential complexes and commercial spaces steadily stimulates demand; accordingly, installation work here is priced within an average of 1198 UAH/m². It should be remembered that calling an industrial climber to install systems in dense built-up areas or perform highly specialized tasks involves a minimum tariff from 3000 UAH per work shift, which inevitably places an additional burden on the total cost per square meter.

Accompanying works, base preparation, and operational maintenance

The financial model of arranging a modern metal facade is never limited only to the cost of the base panel and the installation of brackets. The actual construction process consists of dozens of micro-operations and accompanying works that generate significant costs and require careful planning.

Before finishing begins, there is often a need to dismantle old structures (in the case of reconstruction). Complete dismantling of an old facade is estimated by builders from 200 to 450 UAH/m² (with an average receipt of about 300 UAH/m²). Removing and disposing of the old, worn-out layer of insulation adds another 100 UAH/m² to the estimate.

Large-scale projects cannot be implemented without the use of lifting mechanisms and scaffolding. The installation and subsequent dismantling of facade scaffolding costs the investor in the range of 80 to 120 UAH per square meter of wall area (in vertical projection). If the facade requires additional covering with protective construction mesh, this will cost about another 10 UAH/m².

Table 4. Average cost of specialized and accompanying facade works

Type of work Unit of measurement Approximate market price (UAH)
Installation / dismantling of scaffolding 1 m² of wall 80 – 120
Arrangement of window slopes in the SVF system 1 linear meter 200 – 450
Installation of window ebbs and parapets 1 linear meter 300 – 670
Dismantling of the old facade 1 m² 200 – 450
Sealing of inter-panel seams 1 linear meter from 450
Elimination of external local leaks 1 section from 1200
Washing the facade with a high-pressure apparatus 1 m² 77 – 120
Complex cleaning (removal of inscriptions/graffiti) 1 m² 200 – 350

A critical stage affecting the thermal insulation of the entire building is the proper arrangement of window slopes and ebbs. Cladding the perimeter of windows with metal elements or composite materials requires the highest qualification of workers. These precision works are priced in running meters and amount to 200 to 450 UAH/linear m. for creating slopes and 300 to 670 UAH/linear m. for installing metal ebbs.

Already during the operation of the building, the need for technical maintenance arises. Works on sealing seams and joints that have lost elasticity over time cost from 450 UAH/linear m., and local elimination of leaks at height by professional climbers is estimated from 1200 UAH per problem area. Washing a ventilated facade to maintain its original gloss will cost from 77 to 120 UAH/m², and in cases of complex surface cleaning from chemical pollution or vandal inscriptions, the price of cleaning rises to 200–350 UAH/m². All these operational expenses must be taken into account at the stage of designing the budget for the object’s life cycle.

Transport logistics: a hidden driver of estimate formation

When budgeting for the arrangement of large-scale facades, customers and investors tend to focus solely on the price list cost per square meter of panel and the base price of the installation crew’s work. However, the hidden part of the financial “iceberg” that can significantly change the economics of the project lies in the transport logistics of materials from the plant to the construction site.

The specificity of facade metal structures (cassettes, racks, blinds lamellas) is that they are extremely bulky (oversized) cargo. Despite their relatively low physical weight (up to 8 kg/m²), they occupy a significant volume in the body of freight transport. Dense packing is impossible, as this will lead to inevitable mechanical damage, scratches on the polymer coating, and critical spatial deformations (distortion of the geometry of locks or cassette corners) during transportation. Therefore, transport carries more air than metal.

Table 5. Tariffication of transport logistics for building materials by regions

Delivery region Type of transport / Volume Approximate service cost (UAH) Additional conditions
Kyiv (city) Up to 2 tons (body length up to 4 m) 900 – 1620 Fixed rate per trip
Kyiv (city) Cargo van (rental) 500 – 800 per hour Minimum order 2 hours + supply 400-1000 UAH
Kyiv (region) Up to 2 tons 950 + 70 UAH/km Calculation from warehouse
Lviv (city) Up to 2 tons from 600 Fixed rate for small batches
Dnipro (city) Up to 2 tons from 600 Fixed rate for small batches
Intercity transportation 20-ton truck (volume 85 m³) 880 – 1300 per hour For large-scale projects

For capital objects, the situation is the most favorable. The presence of direct production facilities of the Mehbud plant in Kyiv minimizes transportation costs. Delivery of small batches of building materials across Kyiv (up to 2 tons) costs between 900–1620 UAH per trip. The hourly rental of a standard cargo van starts from 500 to 800 UAH/hour, while transport companies always set a condition of a minimum order of two hours plus the cost of physical delivery of the vehicle (about 400-1000 UAH). To provide materials for large-scale construction objects, 20-ton trucks with a huge body volume (up to 85 m³) are engaged, the tariff for which starts from 880 to 1300 UAH/hour.

The situation radically changes for customers from other regions. The base cost of local delivery of small batches of cargo within the city in Lviv and Dnipro starts from 600 UAH. However, the absolutely key item of logistics costs becomes the intercity transportation of finished products from the Kyiv-based manufacturing plant. Transporting bulky and fragile metal cassettes or long 12-meter lamellas of cube-shaped rack over a distance of 500-600 kilometers requires careful chartering of specialized transport. The cost of such logistics operations is calculated strictly individually and, as practice shows, can add from 5% to 15% to the total cost of purchased materials. This factor explains why the total cost of arranging a facade in the western and eastern regions, despite somewhat cheaper labor, ultimately often equalizes with capital indicators.

Innovative perspectives: integration of energy generation technologies into metal facades

Considering the development of facade systems, it is impossible to bypass the global trend toward the creation of so-called “smart buildings”, capable of independently generating electricity for their own needs. Suspended metal ventilated facades create an ideal base for integrating solar panels directly into the cladding structure, turning a passive wall into an active energy installation.

Classic silicon panels (c-Si), although they demonstrate the highest conversion efficiency (from 20% to 22%) and generate about 180-200 W of energy from each square meter, face serious architectural limitations. Their significant weight, caused by thick glass modules, absolute spatial rigidity of the structure, and high sensitivity to heating (which causes a sharp drop in generation power with partial shading) make their integration into lightweight metal cassettes an extremely complex and expensive endeavor.

Instead, the latest thin-film technologies open up phenomenal opportunities for symbiosis with products from enterprises such as Mehbud. CIGS (Copper Indium Gallium Selenide) technology, having a somewhat lower efficiency of 12%–15% (generation ~85-130 W/m²), is characterized by extremely low weight and high flexibility. They can generate current even in diffused light and partial shading of the facade by other buildings or trees, and their solid aesthetic black color perfectly harmonizes with graphite facade cassettes. Another promising technology is the use of Cadmium Telluride (CdTe), which provides efficiency at the level of 15%–18% and features excellent temperature coefficients, meaning the panels do not lose their power during strong summer heat when the metal facade heats up the most. Although these innovations are currently at the stage of early implementation in the Ukrainian market, the rigid frame of ventilated facades and the presence of a ventilation gap (which cools the back wall of the panels) make metal SVFs the only technologically correct choice for future energy-active construction.

Results and conclusions of the analysis

A fundamental analysis of the Ukrainian facade systems market confirms that suspended metal ventilated facades have finally secured the status of the golden engineering standard for commercial and premium residential construction, confidently displacing traditional “wet” bonded thermal insulation technologies. The strategic shift of architects to systems with metal cassettes, linear racks, voluminous cube-shaped lamellas, and multifunctional blinds facades is dictated by their absolute fire safety, lack of wet processes (which enables year-round installation without stopping the construction process for the winter), and an impressive operational lifespan that reaches 50 years without the need for major repairs. The presence of powerful domestic manufacturing giants, a bright example of which is the capital’s Mehbud plant, provides the Ukrainian market with high-tech and certified products. This critically reduces the construction industry’s dependence on unstable international logistics, expensive imported materials, and exchange rate fluctuations.

The pricing matrix for facade structure installation services clearly correlates with the macroeconomic climate and demographic processes in key regions. Kyiv predictably holds the position of the most expensive and competitive market with a colossal price dispersion. This polarization is caused by the parallel existence of both small uncertified brigades and elite engineering companies with a huge staff, where the average price of high-quality comprehensive SVF installation confidently exceeds 1200 UAH/m², and in cases of complex geometry reaches 2400 UAH/m². Lviv, which has transformed into a key hub for business relocation and is experiencing an unprecedented construction boom of innovation parks, suffers from an acute shortage of qualified engineering personnel. As a result, the cost of Lviv facade workers’ labor has practically equaled the capital’s. Dnipro, relying on its industrial pragmatism and focus on large-scale logistics developments, maintains a more balanced pricing, offering investors a discount on labor costs in the amount of 15-20% compared to the capital.

However, general contractors and investors should be aware that savings on base labor in the regions can be lightning-fast and completely offset by the costs of intercity logistics of bulky and fragile metal structures from capital plants. To ensure the successful, cost-effective, and timely implementation of any construction project, deep and comprehensive financial planning at the zero cycle is critically important. This planning should cover not only the superficial purchase of a decorative facade screen but also a scrupulous calculation of the cost of a reliable aluminum subsystem, high-quality basalt thermal insulation with protective membranes, rental of lifting mechanisms and scaffolding, high-precision sealing of window nodes, and specialized transport logistics.
