How to make a stone fence (wall) in Minecraft
A stone fence in the game is officially called a “Wall”. Visually, such a fence has a thicker, more intimidating, and unassailable look. It is perfect for building castles, fortresses, and dungeons. Stone walls have high blast resistance (especially deepslate or blackstone), so they will protect a base from a creeper explosion better than wooden ones.
The types of stone walls are vast: regular cobblestone, mossy cobblestone, granite, diorite, andesite, brick, sandstone, deepslate, tuff, mud brick, and many others.
Creation process:
1. Resource gathering. You will need 6 full blocks of the desired stone (for example, cobblestone). Head to a mine and use a pickaxe.
2. Crafting. Open the crafting table. Fill the bottom and middle rows horizontally with the selected stone blocks (6 pieces in total). The top row remains empty.
3. Result. From 6 stone blocks, you will immediately get 6 stone walls. This is extremely efficient and fast!
Interesting fact: If you place a stone wall next to a wooden fence, they will not connect directly; a small gap will remain between them. This can be used to create arrow slits from which it is convenient to shoot a bow safely.
How to make a Nether fence (Nether Brick Fence)
If you want your fence to be completely fireproof and have a grim burgundy shade, you need a nether brick fence. This fence has a unique feature: it strictly does not connect to regular wooden fences or stone walls.
How to craft:
You will need to travel to the Nether and mine Netherrack.
1. Smelt the Netherrack in a furnace to get “Nether Brick” items.
2. From 4 such items in the crafting table, assemble a full Nether Brick Block.
3. Now the recipe for the fence itself: in the crafting table, lay out a row (horizontally) of Nether Brick Block – Nether Brick Item –
Nether Brick Block. Duplicate this row below it.
As a result, you will get 6 nether fences.
Gates (Fence Gate) — an integral part of the fence
A gate (or fence gate) is a special variant of a door created specifically to work in conjunction with fences and stone walls. A regular wooden door looks ridiculous in the middle of a fence, but a fence gate fits perfectly into the overall look.
Crafting a gate: In the crafting table, place Stick – Plank – Stick. Do this in two rows. You get 1 gate as output. If you use different planks, the gate will take on the color of the wood used.
Important properties of the gate:
Like the fence, the height of a closed gate for mobs is 1.5 blocks. It won’t become a “hole” in your fence that can be jumped over.
Gates open in both directions, depending on which way the player is facing when interacting.
Zombie protection: Unlike regular wooden doors, zombies on hard difficulty cannot break down fence gates.
If you stack gates on top of each other, you’ll get a tall set of gates.
Gates can be opened using redstone signals, pressure plates, or buttons.
How to make an electric fence in Minecraft (Mechanism)
In vanilla Minecraft without mods (such as Industrial Craft), there is no real “electric fence” item. However, players have come up with a clever mechanism that simulates an electric shock!
Instructions for building the defense mechanism:
1. Base: Place two pillars of any material a few blocks apart from each other.
2. Fence: Connect the tops of the pillars with Iron Bars. They will act as exposed wires.
3. Trigger (Sensor): On the bottom blocks of the pillars (at foot level), install Tripwire Hooks and connect them with String (drops from spiders). The string will be almost invisible.
4. Punishment: Dig a hole under the pillars and the string line. Place Dispensers facing upwards there. Put Splash Potions of Instant Harming or poison potions in the dispensers.
5. Circuit: Run redstone dust from the blocks with the hooks to the dispensers and disguise the floor with dirt.
How it works: The iron bars on top prevent jumping over. When a stranger or a mob gets close and steps on the invisible string, the sensor sends a signal. The dispenser instantly fires a harming potion. The trespasser takes sharp damage and gets knocked back — a perfect illusion of a powerful electric shock! This is a very practical and fun mechanism to protect your server from griefers.
Finding materials in the world
If you do not want to spend wood on crafting, fences can be easily found while traveling the world and mined with an axe (stone walls — with a pickaxe).
Where fences generate in the Minecraft world:
1) Villages:
- On the roofs of houses as railings and decor.
- As improvised tables (fence + pressure plate on top).
- As lampposts (fence + wool/stone block + torches).
- As enclosures for animal pens and gardens.
2) Abandoned Mineshafts: Wooden fences generate by the thousands underground, serving as support pillars for the mineshaft ceilings. This is the best source of free wood!
3) Strongholds: Used as railings in libraries and wooden walkways.
4) Nether Fortresses: Kilometers of Nether fences are generated here. It is the most dangerous place, but it provides an endless supply of nether bricks.
5) Shipwrecks: Fences are used to simulate masts and rigging on ships.
6) Woodland Mansions: A huge amount of dark oak decor.
7) Witch Huts: The balcony of the hut is always fenced with a spruce fence.
